The most sought-after plastic surgeries in winter

Several types of plastic surgeries are sought after this time of year. According to plastic surgeon Dr. Fernando Amato, there is a trend of increased demand for plastic surgeries in July. This is because many take advantage of school holidays to organize logistics with children and undergo the procedure more calmly.

Other reasons for this trend are the use of post-surgical garments and compression belts, which are very uncomfortable in hot weather, and also to get the body ready for Summer.

Dr. Amato details the three most sought-after plastic surgeries in winter:

Abdominoplasty:

It is among the top five most performed worldwide, according to a survey by the Plastic Surgery Statistics Report. The surgery can be performed for aesthetic or reconstructive purposes and is indicated for patients with excess skin and fat in the abdomen, which, in extreme cases, can even form an apron and cover the genitalia. This can be common in post-operative bariatric surgery or in patients with significant weight loss, being an alternative to restore the patient's quality of life and self-esteem. It can also be performed for hernia corrections of the abdominal wall and the treatment of rectus abdominis muscles (diastasis).

Liposuction:

One of the most sought-after surgeries in Brazil, it is indicated to reduce body fat. There are several techniques and modern devices to provide a better result in liposuction. Lipolaser is an interesting alternative, where the laser acts by loosening fat, facilitating liposuction and stimulating collagen production, thus it can reduce sagging and increase skin retraction. There are wavelengths that can preserve fat for grafts in breasts, buttocks, and face. The lipolaser makes the procedure easier, less invasive, providing the patient with a faster recovery with fewer risks of bleeding and hematoma formation.

Mammaplasty with silicone implant:

In Brazil, according to data from the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP), this surgery ranks 2nd, losing only to liposuction. Mammaplasty can be indicated in cases of weight fluctuation, age, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. Genetic factors such as very small or asymmetrical breasts resulting in a disharmonious appearance also have an indication for mammaplasty. Silicone is a chemical substance produced from silicon found in sand, and can be produced in solid, liquid, or gel form.

“Remember that the choice of the appropriate implant is fundamental for the safety of the procedure. Only silicone implants approved by the National Health Surveillance Agency – ANVISA, which performs rigorous quality and safety tests, should be used. Furthermore, every surgery has its risks, and despite the technology of implants being increasingly developed, there are still risks and, although they do not have an expiration date, implants are not eternal and will need to be replaced in the future,” explains Dr. Fernando Amato.
