The most sought-after plastic surgeries in winter

Various types of plastic surgeries are sought after this time of year. According to plastic surgeon Dr. Fernando Amato, there is an upward trend in the demand for plastic surgery during the month of July. This is because many people take advantage of the school vacation to organize child care and undergo the procedure in a calmer setting.

Other reasons for this trend include the use of post-surgical compression garments and binders, which are very uncomfortable in warm weather, as well as wanting to get the body ready for Summer.

Dr. Amato details the three most sought-after plastic surgeries in winter:

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck):

It is among the top five most performed worldwide, according to a survey by the Plastic Surgery Statistics Report. The surgery can be performed for aesthetic or reconstructive purposes and is indicated for patients with excess skin and fat in the abdomen, which, in extreme cases, can even form an apron (pannus) and cover the genitalia. This can be common in the postoperative period of bariatric surgery or in patients with massive weight loss, serving as an alternative to restore the patient's quality of life and self-esteem. It can also be performed for the repair of abdominal wall hernias and the treatment of the rectus abdominis muscles (diastasis recti).

Liposuction:

One of the most sought-after surgeries in Brazil, it is indicated to reduce body fat. There are several modern techniques and devices designed to deliver better results in liposuction. Laser liposuction is an interesting alternative, in which the laser acts by emulsifying the fat, facilitating liposuction, and stimulating collagen production; this can reduce laxity and increase skin retraction. Certain wavelengths are able to preserve the fat for grafting into the breasts, buttocks, and face. Laser liposuction makes the procedure easier, less invasive, and provides the patient with a faster recovery with less risk of bleeding and hematoma formation.

Breast augmentation with silicone implants:

In Brazil, according to data from the Sociedade Brasileira de Cirurgia Plástica (SBPC), this surgery ranks 2nd, behind only liposuction. Mammoplasty may be indicated in cases of weight fluctuations, age, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. Genetic factors such as very small or asymmetrical breasts resulting in a disproportionate appearance are also indications for mammoplasty. Silicone is a synthetic polymer produced from silicon found in sand, and can be manufactured in solid, liquid, or gel form.

“Remember that choosing the appropriate implant is essential for procedural safety. Only silicone implants approved by the National Health Surveillance Agency – ANVISA, which conducts rigorous quality and safety testing, should be used. Furthermore, every surgery has its risks, and although implant technology continues to advance, risks still exist; and while they do not have an expiration date, implants do not last forever and will need to be replaced in the future,” explains Dr. Fernando Amato.
