Augmentation Mammoplasty (Silicone Implant)

The choice of the ideal volume for a breast augmentation implant is a process that involves several factors, such as the patient's desire, the doctor's recommendations, and the patient's physical measurements. It is important to remember that it is not possible to exceed these measurements, as this can cause complications. To assist in this choice, there are several techniques and tools, such as external and sterile sizers that the surgeon can use during surgery, as well as cameras with lenses adapted for 3D capture. These images are then translated by specialized software, which helps to create a simulation. However, it is important to remember that this simulation has limitations and does not guarantee a final result. 3D simulation is a valuable tool, but it is only an aid in choosing the ideal implant volume.

In this video, Dr. Fernando Amato, a plastic surgeon, talks about augmentation mammoplasty with silicone implants and the possibilities of 3D simulation for surgical planning.

: Hello, I am Dr. Fernando, I am a plastic
surgeon here at Instituto Amato.

Today I would like to talk about augmentation mammoplasty,
breast implant.

How to choose the ideal volume?

To choose the ideal implant volume to
augment the breast will depend on the patient's desire,

the doctor's desire, and what
actually fits the patient.

So, it depends on measurements and there's no point
in trying to exceed them, because otherwise there can be

complications.

There are ways to use external sizers, as
well as sizers that the surgeon can use

during surgery, like this one that comes
sterile and the surgeon can place it, he

sees if he liked it, if the volume is adequate
for what he wants, what he discussed

with the patient.

There are cameras with lenses
coupled and adapted for 3D capture,

and the most important thing is the software that will
translate these images to be able to do a

simulation, as it is a simulation there are
limitations that the software will not be able to

identify, for example, gravity, it
will not be able to show a sag, it will not

also be able to interpret details
of the patient such as skin texture.

3D simulation helps choose the ideal volume,
but it will not promise a result.

What is augmentation mammoplasty?

Augmentation mammoplasty is a plastic surgery that aims to increase breast size, usually performed through the placement of silicone implants.

What types of silicone implants are used in augmentation mammoplasty?

There are two main types of silicone implants used in augmentation mammoplasty: round implants and anatomical implants. Round implants are the most common and offer a more prominent enhancement, while anatomical implants are designed to be more natural and conform better to the body's shape.

What are the risks and complications of augmentation mammoplasty with silicone implants?

As with any surgery, there are risks and complications associated with augmentation mammoplasty with silicone implants. Some of these risks include infection, bleeding, pain, swelling, and bruising. In addition, silicone implants can rupture or migrate, which may require further surgery to correct these problems.

What is the recovery time for augmentation mammoplasty?

Recovery time can vary depending on the patient and the type of surgery performed. Generally, patients are expected to return to their normal activities in about a week, but there may still be swelling and tenderness in the breasts for several weeks. It is important to follow the surgeon's instructions to ensure proper recovery and avoid complications.

Is it possible to breastfeed after augmentation mammoplasty with silicone implants?

It is not guaranteed that a woman can continue to breastfeed after augmentation mammoplasty with silicone implants, as the surgery can affect the structure of the mammary glands. However, some women are able to breastfeed successfully after surgery. It is important to discuss this possibility with the surgeon before deciding on augmentation mammoplasty.

How are the incisions made for the placement of the silicone implant in augmentation mammoplasty?

Incisions for silicone implant placement in augmentation mammoplasty can be made in several ways, depending on the surgeon and the type of implant. Common incisions include the inframammary fold (below the breast), the areola (around the nipple), and the armpit. Some surgeons may also make incisions at the lower part of the nipple.

How is the size of the silicone implant in augmentation mammoplasty chosen?

The choice of silicone implant size in augmentation mammoplasty is made based on the patient's desire, the doctor's recommendations, and the patient's physical measurements. The surgeon can use external and sterile sizers, cameras with lenses adapted for 3D capture, and simulation software to assist in choosing the implant size. 3D simulation is a valuable tool, but it is only an aid in choosing the ideal implant volume.
