Breast Explantation
Explantation is the popular name given to the surgical procedure of removing silicone implants. It is also known by other names such as: explantation of implants, silicone explantation, silicone implant explantation, implant removal, breast explantation, silicone explantation. The most appropriate term is “Surgical removal of silicone breast implants”.
It can be performed for aesthetic reasons or complications reported by patients. In this case, symptoms related to fatigue, hair loss, insomnia, and joint pain may indicate ASIA syndrome, but these are also indications present in other diseases.
It is also important to mention silicone illness, a somewhat broad and generic term that could refer to all diseases related to the presence of a foreign material like silicone in the body, but which can also be related to its extravasation and contamination of the body.
Breast explantation is the popular term used for silicone implant removal surgery. It can be performed for aesthetic reasons, but it has been widely performed on patients who experience complications related to silicone implants. What are these complications? There has been much discussion about silicone illness and ASIA Syndrome. Silicone illness is a more generic term that can encompass all complications related to silicone implants, although some relate it only to the toxicity of silicone that extravasates from an intact implant; this situation is called bleeding. It is important to remember that it is common for a capsule to form around any implanted material. In the case of breast implants, this capsule can become hardened, visibly deformed, and even cause pain. Although rare, there is even a lymphoma related to breast implants, and in this case, the surgery to treat the disease is the removal of the implant en bloc, meaning the intact implant within its capsule. Ruptured implants can lead to silicone migration to the lymph nodes in the axilla, causing pain, discomfort, and even impairing lymphatic drainage of the breast and arms. There is a syndrome called ASIA, in which silicone implants act as a trigger for developing signs and symptoms similar to rheumatological diseases, such as joint pain, body aches, fatigue, sleep disturbances, hair loss, dry eyes, dry mouth, and others. When placing a breast implant, the surgeon must be honest and explain these risks, and the patient must have the maturity to make this choice. #breast #mammaplasty #mastopexy #breastreconstruction #breastcancer #breastprosthesis #breastprosthesis #siliconeprosthesis #siliconeprosthesis #mastopexywithprosthesis #breastgraft #explantation #breastexplantation #plasticsurgery #plasticsurgeon #health #wellness
