Michel Faro Praddo, known as Diabão, is famous for his body modifications. Currently boasting over 60 modifications and with almost 85% of his body tattooed, he intends to enter the Guinness Book as the most modified man in the world. But is modifying the body so extensively healthy?

“All these procedures are extremely risky. Every surgical procedure will have its risks, regardless of whether it is medium or large, all have risks,” states Alexandre Kataoka, plastic surgeon and forensic doctor for the Secretariat of Justice of the State of São Paulo.

Diabão himself recently experienced a complication and had to be taken to the hospital after the sutures of an abdominoplasty ruptured — in the surgery, he also chose to remove his belly button.

Among the modifications Michel underwent are 17 silicone implants; 30 scarifications (the practice of provoking scars); seven transdermal implants (adornments placed under the skin); removal of part of the nose and ear; removal of the nipples and ring finger; an eyeball tattoo (tattoo on the “white” of the eye); a bifurcated tongue, a silver dental implant, among others.

Michel himself stated in a recent interview with UOL that “the finger removal was performed by a Mexican friend considered one of the greatest modifiers in the world.” This type of action already raises an alert, as the surgery was not performed by a doctor. This is because every surgical procedure carries a risk of infection, especially if it is not done in an appropriate place.

“No doctor will do this, you are not bringing benefits. Doctors swear to promote health. Any complication that arises can even lead to the doctor losing their CRM [registration with the professional council needed to practice],” explains Fernando Amato, plastic surgeon and member of the SBCP (Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery).
