Brazil records 25,000 EXPLANTS
Although rare, silicone-related illness and ASIA Syndrome may be linked to the increased demand for breast explant. However, a change in aesthetic behavior, related to a more natural appearance, may be indicated as the main reason for the search for breast implant removal.
The latest survey conducted by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in 2020 shows that Brazil performed 1.3 million plastic surgeries in one year, and of this total, 25,000 procedures were for the removal of silicone implants (explants) and 105,000 mastopexies – a procedure to reposition the breasts, being the 5th most performed aesthetic surgery of the year.
Women are increasingly empowering themselves and setting aside others' opinions, growing to like their bodies more and valuing natural beauty. And this is very welcome.
Silicone-related illness – is a generic term that can encompass all complications related to the implant. However, many associate it only with toxicity caused by the presence of silicone, which can even involve implant leakage without it being ruptured.
ASIA Syndrome – the silicone implant acts as a trigger to develop symptoms similar to those of rheumatological and autoimmune diseases such as body joint pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, hair loss, dry eyes and mouth.
