To honor this act of love between mother and baby, I will discuss some important topics here on my feed that generate many questions, especially when the subject is plastic surgery and breastfeeding. One of the main questions from patients who decide to undergo mammoplasty augmentation (Silicone Implant) is: if I get pregnant, will I be able to breastfeed normally? 🤷
In most cases, the answer is yes. Basically, surgeries that do not involve cuts in the mammary gland do not interfere with breastfeeding, such as breast implants with access (incision) made in the inframammary fold, leaving the implant located behind the gland. However, the more incisions made during surgery, the greater the possibility that the gland's healing could interfere with future breastfeeding.
In most cases, this chance is small, but it is important for the patient to know all the risks before making a decision. It is essential to have an honest conversation with the doctor about the existing risks and understand which method will be used in the surgery.
As I always say: nature is wise, and the breast was made to produce milk. What helps the most in favor of breastfeeding is encouragement and family support. 😉
