Breast Implant: when to replace?

They need to be replaced at some point in life. Any foreign material placed in the body will cause a reaction in the body. So, in the case of breast prostheses, breast implants, the body forms a capsule around them to protect itself from this implant. This capsule, over time, can begin to become thick and hardened. And, over time, the patient may feel pain, and these hardenings can even cause visible deformities in the breast. We call this capsular contracture. This is one of the main reasons for breast implant replacement. Capsular contracture occurs, on average, 10 to 20 years later. But, it can happen earlier, at 3 years, 4 years. Replacing the prosthesis due to capsular contracture is not the only reason. Patients have been getting breast prostheses very early. And they end up gaining weight, losing weight, and breastfeeding, and over time they end up having breast ptosis, a sagging of the breast, and skin laxity. One of the reasons for implant replacement is also a repositioning and an improvement in appearance after this weight gain/loss and breastfeeding. The most important thing is to be followed by your doctor to ensure everything is fine with the prosthesis, if there has been no rupture, if there is no hardened capsule, and with him, plan when to replace it or whether to just monitor.
