Mammoplasty or Mastopexy in post-Gastric Bypass, post-bariatric, or ex-obese patients.
Mammoplasty is a procedure commonly performed in patients who have undergone post-bariatric surgery, which may or may not be associated with the placement of breast implants.
Patients who have experienced significant weight loss, whether through diet, diet and medication, or bariatric surgery, may complain of breast sagging and ptosis.
In addition to being aesthetically displeasing, it can cause dermatitis (skin infections), mainly by making personal hygiene difficult.
It can be performed in conjunction with other surgeries for the ex-obese patient (Arm, Abdomen, and Thigh), but due to its extent and the patient's other conditions (diabetes, hypertension, etc.), the surgical time should be as short as possible to avoid complications such as deep vein thrombosis.
Surgery: The surgery can be performed with or without a breast implant, and in these patients, nipple repositioning and removal of excess skin are almost always necessary.
Scars: The scars depend on the surgeon/patient discussion, breast shape, technique used, and whether or not breast implants are used. The most common scar is the inverted "T" shape, but it can vary.
Anesthesia: Anesthesia can be general and epidural.
Hospitalization: It can be performed on an outpatient basis with discharge on the same day in a few cases, but discharge on the following day is preferred for patient observation, and discharge only occurs if the patient is in suitable condition.
Post-Operative / Recovery: Normally, the patient can return to activities in 2 to 3 weeks. An elastic compression garment should be worn for at least 1 month. The use of drains may be necessary.
Complications: The scar may widen. Bruising and ecchymoses. Asymmetries.
