Mammoplasty or Mastopexy in patients after Gastroplasty, after bariatric surgery, or ex-obese.
Mammoplasty is a very common procedure in patients who have undergone post-bariatric surgery, which may or may not be associated with the placement of breast implants.
Patients who have undergone significant weight loss, whether through diet, diet and medication, or bariatric surgery, may complain of sagging and ptosis of the breasts.
In addition to being aesthetically unpleasing, it can be a cause of dermatitis (skin infections), mainly due to difficulty in personal hygiene.
It can be performed in conjunction with other surgeries for the ex-obese (Arm, Abdomen, and Thigh), but due to its extent and the patient's other conditions (diabetes, hypertension, etc.), the surgical time should be as short as possible to avoid complications such as deep vein thrombosis.
Surgery: The surgery can be performed with or without breast implants, and in these patients, nipple repositioning and resection of excess skin are almost always necessary.
Scars: Scars depend on the surgeon/patient discussion, breast shape, technique used, and whether or not breast implants are used. The most common scar is the inverted "T," but it can vary.
Anesthesia: Anesthesia can be general and epidural.
Hospitalization: It can be performed on an outpatient basis (Hospital-Day) with discharge on the same day in a few cases, with discharge the next day being preferable for patient observation and only if the patient is in good condition.
Post-Operative / Recovery: Normally, the patient can return to activities in 2 to 3 weeks. They should wear an elastic garment for at least 1 month. The use of drains may be necessary.
Complications: The scar may widen. Bruising and ecchymoses. Asymmetries.
