To clarify your doubts about the procedure, watch the video and see more details with Dr. Fernando Amato (CRM 133826). --transcript--- Hello. Today I'm going to talk about some doubts that patients have about breast augmentation, which is one of the most performed plastic surgeries in the world. WHERE IS THE SCAR LOCATED? Scars can be in the armpit, in the inframammary fold, which is the most common, and periareolar, which is around the areola. IS THE IMPLANT PLACED IN FRONT OF OR BEHIND THE MUSCLE? This question greatly depends on the surgeon's experience and the technique they are most accustomed to performing. Each technique has its advantages and disadvantages. In the case of placing it behind the muscle, one of the justifications is for very thin patients with almost no tissue, because it will prevent the prosthesis from marking the skin more. In addition, it is also widely used for patients who have undergone mastectomy and no longer have glandular tissue and only have fat and skin. So, in these cases, the prosthesis is already placed behind the muscle. When we place it in front of the muscle, the post-operative period is much calmer and less painful. IS THE PROSTHESIS ALWAYS SILICONE? In the United States, there are many implants filled with saline solution. In Brazil, silicone implants are much more common. But there are also prostheses coated with a material called polyurethane. The texture of the prosthesis refers to its surface, which can be micro or macro-textured. Previously, they were all smooth and had a higher rate of capsular contracture. The texture will interfere with the adherence of the prosthesis to the tissues. So, these textured prostheses adhere better to the tissue, preventing them from rotating inside the patient. In addition, they reduce capsular contracture. WHAT SHAPES EXIST? Prostheses can be round, or they can be anatomical. What will mainly interfere with the upper pole of the breast. Here in this video, we can see a simulation of an anatomical prosthesis. And we verify that the transition in the upper pole of the breast is much smoother, much more natural. Although many patients prefer to place a round prosthesis to make the décolleté much fuller. CAN IT CAUSE STRETCH MARKS? It can cause stretch marks depending on the volume placed. So, patients who place very exaggerated volumes are more likely to develop stretch marks than patients who place smaller volume prostheses. HOW IS NIPPLE SENSITIVITY AFFECTED? Breast implant surgery, augmentation mammoplasty, usually does not interfere with nipple sensitivity. However, patients who place large volumes may experience a decrease and even loss of this sensitivity. As well as patients who opt for periareolar access, which also has a higher chance of interfering with this sensitivity. DOES IT INTERFERE WITH BREASTFEEDING? The placement of a breast implant, when there is no skin resection, no glandular resection, no repositioning of the nipple-areolar complex, does not interfere with breastfeeding. CAN IT CAUSE CANCER? Breast implant placement does not cause breast cancer and does not prevent annual mammography screening. Did you like the video?
