The correction can be done by placing a breast implant, breast prosthesis, and may or may not be associated with fat grafting. Watch the video and see more details with Dr. Fernando Amato (CRM 133826). --transcript-- Hello! Today we are going to talk about a breast shape alteration called tuberous breast. What is tuberous breast? Tuberous breast is a congenital breast alteration, related to a family history, a genetic predisposition. This developmental alteration causes the breast to have a smaller base and a slightly more enlarged areola, giving the impression that the entire breast is herniating through this areola. Furthermore, it is strongly associated with small breasts, or breast hypoplasia. Treatment will vary according to the shape and volume of the breast. So fat grafting, prosthesis placement, can be done, but the most common is to combine fat filling with breast prosthesis placement, that is, a breast implant. In addition, as the areola is enlarged, it is possible to reduce the size of the areola and all access for placing the prosthesis can be done through this areola, that is, resulting in a scar on the areola, or periareolar.
