Recuperação do laser de CO₂ fracionado: dia a dia (D0 ao D30)

The biggest difference between a smooth recovery and an unnecessary scare is knowing what to expect each day. Fractional CO₂ laser has a predictable recovery pattern — redness, thin crusts, peeling, and, finally, renewed skin. This is the realistic timeline from D0 to D30.

Day 0 (session) — intense red face

  • Strong sunburn sensation for 3 to 6 hours
  • May have mild to moderate edema (swelling), mostly around the eyes
  • Cold compresses for 20 min, several times
  • Sleep with head elevated

Days 1–2 — peak redness and swelling

  • Intense redness, facial swelling (especially periorbital in the morning)
  • Oily/moist skin — do not confuse with infection
  • Wash with thermal water or saline 2–3x a day
  • Moisturize with repairing cream (panthenol, ceramides) many times
  • Work from home / home office is fine; in-person is not recommended

Days 3–5 — peeling begins

  • "Thick" skin, dark micropunctate tanned appearance (MTZ)
  • Onset of fine peeling — DO NOT pick
  • Mild itching is common — moisturize more, cold helps
  • May start mineral sunscreen
  • Light walking allowed

Days 6–10 — crusts fall off

  • Intense peeling during this window — the entire skin "sheds"
  • New skin underneath: pink, smooth, sensitive
  • May return to social life — residual redness already camouflaged with mineral makeup
  • Suspend saunas, chlorinated pools, intense exercise until day 10

Days 11–20 — residual redness

  • Renewed, pink, more luminous skin
  • Progressively less redness
  • Strict mineral sunscreen — this is the phase with the highest risk of hyperpigmentation
  • Normal makeup and exercise allowed

Days 21–30 — results consolidate

  • Redness practically resolved
  • Texture, spots, and fine wrinkles with visible improvement
  • Collagen stimulation remains active for 90 days
  • Final result is only evaluated between 60 and 90 days

Warning signs — when to call the doctor

  • Intense pain that worsens (does not improve with simple analgesic)
  • Grouped vesicles (suspicion of herpes)
  • Yellowish/purulent discharge, odor
  • Redness far beyond the treated area after 48h
  • Fever

Basic recovery kit

  • Thermal water spray
  • Repairing cream (panthenol/ceramides)
  • Mild syndet soap
  • Mineral sunscreen SPF 50+
  • Gel compress for cooling
  • Extra pillow for elevated sleeping

Frequently asked questions

How many days of social isolation for fractional CO₂ laser?

For moderate parameters, most return to normal social activities between the 7th and 10th day, when the crusts fall off. Residual redness continues but can be camouflaged with mineral makeup. Deeper parameters require 10 to 14 days.

Can I wash my face after the laser?

Yes. From the day after, wash with thermal water or saline solution and mild soap (syndet) without rubbing. Pat dry gently. Moisturize several times a day with repairing cream.

When can I wear makeup?

Generally from the 7th to 10th day, after the crusts have fallen off and the skin is intact. Mineral makeup is preferred in the first few weeks. Avoid heavy foundations and products with fragrance.

When can I sunbathe again?

Direct sun: avoid for 30 to 60 days. Mineral sunscreen (zinc/titanium) SPF 50+ should be used daily even indoors for the first 4 weeks, and when going out, reapply every 2–3 hours.

When can I exercise?

Light walking from the 3rd day. Moderate to intense exercise (intense sweating, gym, running) only after 7 to 10 days, once the crusts have come off — sweating on healing skin can increase inflammation.
