It is already possible to see the result of silicone implants even before surgery

Having an idea of how the breast will look after implant placement even before plastic surgery is now a reality thanks to 3D simulation. With photographic cameras and software that allow 3D breast implant simulation, it's possible to evaluate different implants and results, helping the patient make the best choice.

Although it is not a promise of the final result, the technology greatly aids communication between the patient and the surgeon in understanding the surgery and its potential outcomes.

First, the doctor must respect the patient's wishes, and these wishes will guide the choice of the ideal implant of silicone. However, the doctor must also use common sense and explain to the patient which implant will provide the most harmonious result, as the dimensions of each implant can vary greatly. For example, the implant may have the same base but different projections, leading to different volumes. I particularly like to present the different volumes and shapes to the patient during the pre-operative consultation so they can see, touch, and feel the implant.

Another technique that can be adopted in the office is the use of sizers, which allows the patient to place the implant in their bra so they can understand their expectations regarding the surgery.

Sizers can also be used during surgery to guide the surgeon in choosing the best implant. I only use sizers in cases where the patient has significant breast asymmetry. Excluding these cases, I rely on technology, which is increasingly favoring plastic surgery. I usually tell patients that the surgery truly begins with the 3D simulation.

In addition to augmentation mammoplasty with silicone implants, 3D technology can be used in surgical simulations for liposuction, breast reconstruction, fat grafting, volume correction for asymmetrical breasts, and for facial and cosmetic treatments.
