For many centuries, obesity was seen as a sign of health and beauty. Times have changed, customs are different, and the concept of beauty is no longer the same. Especially with the acquisition of knowledge, today, we know that obesity is associated with various diseases and is considered an epidemic.
Although hunger is still an important problem in the global context, access to food has become easier and cheaper. To increase food durability, make it more attractive and palatable, the industry adds some products with questionable nutritional value. Currently, in daily life, meals are eaten in brief moments because the less time spent, the more work can be done.
The pursuit of health and beauty remains a relevant focus for the population, but what is the best path to achieve it?
Is plastic surgery the fastest and most practical way?
Sometimes aesthetic surgery can bring unsatisfactory results, especially when patients are in a hurry to solve their problem. Is it possible to reduce the "belly" with just one surgery? The incisions ("cuts") are proportional to the amount of tissue to be removed, and the risks of a poor result also increase, in addition to increasing the chances of complications! If there is excess tissue, we can't even think that a "little lipo" (liposuction) will solve it! So, let's lose weight? How to start? Which diet to follow? There is no perfect diet. The ideal is for each person to have their diet tailored to their nutritional requirements, feasible for their daily routine, and, most importantly, tasty! Obesity is a multifactorial disease, therefore it should be treated not only by a doctor but by a team of specialists who should address high blood pressure, diabetes, spinal issues, and other associated diseases.
Diet combined with physical activity is not always sufficient to lose weight. Sometimes, medication or even bariatric surgery may be necessary, which can alter both stomach size and intestinal absorption of food, facilitating weight loss. Like all surgeries, they have specific indications and risks that must be evaluated.
After losing weight, whether through diet, medication, or surgery, the skin is no longer the same. Excess skin and sagging do not regress, especially in the abdomen and breasts.
At this point, with improved health, plastic surgery can be the ideal indication!
