This page does not provide a price list — a serious abdominoplasty price only exists after an in-person evaluation (because what seems like the same surgery, in practice, involves four different techniques). What you will find here is what really defines the value — and why comparing only the final price is the most common path to a poor outcome or preventable complication.
The 4 types of abdominoplasty (and what each implies in terms of cost)
| Technique | Indication | Relative Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Mini abdominoplasty | Minor skin laxity, below the navel, without significant diastasis | Lower |
| Classic abdominoplasty | Skin laxity, diastasis, previous pregnancy | Intermediate |
| Lipoabdominoplasty | Above + need to refine contour (waist, flanks) | Higher (combines 2 procedures) |
| Fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty | Post-bariatric patients with significant vertical laxity | Higher (larger scar, longer time) |
The 7 items that make up the cost
- Plastic surgeon's fees — SBCP member, with registered RQE. Experience in body contouring matters.
- Anesthesiologist's fees — SBA member, full-time presence, advanced monitoring.
- Auxiliary team — assistant and instrument technician. A well-performed abdominoplasty requires a complete team.
- Hospital — Level 3 with ICU is the gold standard for abdominoplasty (a major procedure). Hospital stay: generally 1 night.
- Material and mesh — disposable material, and when there is an associated hernia, the cost of surgical mesh.
- Compression garment and drains — compression garment, suction drain (when indicated).
- Included post-operative care — lymphatic drainage, follow-up appointments, control ultrasound, scar care. Check how many sessions/follow-ups are included.
Why an "too cheap" abdominoplasty is concerning
Unlike minor procedures, abdominoplasty is medium/major surgery: it lasts 3 to 5 hours, involves extensive skin dissection, muscle plication, and — when combined with liposuction — aspiration of significant volume. There is a real risk of thrombosis, hematoma, dehiscence, and seroma. Reducing costs by cutting corners on the hospital, board-certified anesthesiologist, or team is trading safety for a discount.
What should always be in the estimate (detailed, by item)
- Surgeon's fees + assistant + instrument technician
- Fees of the board-certified SBA anesthesiologist
- Hospital daily rate(s) — including disposable material
- Compression garment
- Surgical mesh (if applicable)
- Post-operative lymphatic drainage (number of sessions)
- Included follow-up appointments (number)
- Coverage for surgical revisions in case of complication
What weighs more on the result (not the price)
- Correct technical indication — mini where a classic was needed guarantees rework.
- Scar marking and positioning — a poorly positioned scar shows in underwear/bikini; a well-positioned one disappears.
- Closure tension — closure under excessive tension widens the scar.
- Navel care — the navel is "the signature" of abdominoplasty. Poorly done, it gives away the surgery.
- Team + hospital — minimize complications that could lead to a worse result.
How to request a quote
- In-person evaluation with abdominal wall and skin examination
- Clear definition of the technique (mini, classic, lipo+abdomino, fleur-de-lis)
- Abdominal wall ultrasound when diastasis or hernia is suspected
- Item-by-item, written estimate
- Confirm RQE on the CRM-SP website
- Compare quotes of the same technical level (equivalent hospital + team)
Frequently asked questions
How much does an abdominoplasty cost?
It depends a lot on the type (classic, mini, lipoabdominoplasty, reverse, fleur-de-lis), the hospital, the team, and the included post-operative care. An in-person evaluation defines which technique is necessary and generates a detailed item-by-item estimate.
Does health insurance cover abdominoplasty?
Purely cosmetic abdominoplasty is not covered. Coverage exists in specific situations: post-bariatric dermolipectomy with clinical indication (recurrent intertrigo, functional impairment), correction of associated umbilical/epigastric hernia, and abdominal wall reconstruction after oncological surgery.
What is the cost difference between mini abdominoplasty and classic?
The mini is less extensive (no navel repositioning, smaller scar, shorter surgical time), which reduces hospital and fees cost. But the indication must be correct — performing a mini on someone who needed a classic will result in rework.
Does lipoabdominoplasty cost more than classic abdominoplasty?
Generally yes, because it combines two procedures in the same act (liposuction + abdominoplasty). The benefit is a more sculpted result with a single recovery — for many patients, it's worth the difference.
Can I pay for abdominoplasty in installments?
Yes. There are options for direct installment payments, bank financing, and credit cards. The important thing is not to trade safety for price: a certified team and well-equipped hospital cost more — and make a big difference in the result and safety.
