The treatment of breast cancer can be disfiguring. This is because, in addition to deformities that the disease can cause in the breast, the patient has to deal with the emotional impact.

There are several types of surgery indicated as part of cancer treatment. Below, I explain a little about each of them:

✔Lumpectomy: surgery to remove small tumors from the breast;
✔Quadrantectomy: partial removal of breast tissue, at the affected site with a safety margin;
✔Adenomastectomy: surgical procedure where the breast glandular tissue is removed, preserving only the skin and the areola;
✔Mastectomy: surgery for complete removal of the breast;
✔Radical Mastectomy: surgical procedure involving the removal of the breast, underlying chest muscle, and lymph nodes from the armpit;
✔Modified Radical Mastectomy: surgery that removes the entire mammary gland, including the axillary lymph nodes;
✔Skin-sparing Mastectomy: removal of the entire mammary gland with preservation of the skin. This is a technique that allows for optimizing breast reconstruction using implants or the patient's own tissue.
