LYMPHEDEMA can occur due to obstruction or failure in lymphatic circulation, most commonly after surgery, such as removal of lymph nodes affected by malignant cells, for example. ⠀ It can be associated with congenital and infectious diseases (elephantiasis) and evolves into the accumulation of fluid in a specific area of the body, usually limbs, leading to swelling. This fluid is called lymph, similar to blood, but clear in color. When accumulated, it can stimulate the production and deposition of local fat. ⠀ Conservative treatment for lymphedema is done with physiotherapy, lymphatic drainage, and compression. Surgical treatment can be performed with resection of excess tissue, with liposuction being an alternative for reducing limb volume. There is also the option of microsurgery for connecting remaining lymphatic vessels to veins (lymphovenous anastomosis) or even autotransplantation of lymph nodes from another region of the body. ⠀ #cirurgiaplastica #cirurgiãoplastico #saude #linfedema #autoestima #bemestar
