In previous posts, I talked about the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic test, which indicate a higher risk for the development of breast cancer and ovarian cancer. But for whom are these tests indicated?

BRCA can be positive in patients who do not have a family history of cancer, but, generally, genetic testing is indicated for some specific cases. Attention: it is not because one person, in a given family, has a mutation, that all family members run this risk. Women diagnosed with breast cancer before age 50, with one or more first-degree relatives with breast cancer before age 50, and a family history of breast cancer in men are some of the indications for BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic testing. In these patients, it is also important to have regular exams so that the diagnosis is made early.
