In previous posts, I talked about the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic test, which indicate a higher risk for the development of breast cancer and ovarian cancer. But for whom are these tests indicated?

BRCA can be positive in patients who do not have a family history of cancer, but generally, genetic testing is indicated for specific cases. Attention: just because one person in a family has a mutation does not mean that all family members are at this risk. Women diagnosed with breast cancer before age 50, with one or more first-degree relatives with breast cancer before age 50, and a family history of breast cancer in men are some indications for BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic testing. In these patients, it is also important to have regular exams for early diagnosis.
