Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is characterized by an exaggerated preoccupation with perceived flaws in one's appearance. These individuals, even after undergoing plastic surgery, may not be satisfied. It is crucial, during the consultation, to identify this patient profile.

These are people who seek a result through surgery that will never be achieved; meaning, even if the result is excellent, the patient will not perceive it as such and will constantly seek more and more procedures, potentially putting their lives at risk. Anorexia and bulimia are similar disorders that also lead many women to seek liposuction.

It is very common to receive patients with BDD, and identifying this profile before the procedure is fundamental. This way, we can align patient expectations regarding what can truly be achieved with plastic surgery. Before the procedure, I try to have three consultations with the patient, applying questionnaires that help me identify BDD, with the goal of listening to their desires and expectations related to the desired procedure, honestly detailing to the patient the extent to which we can go with the surgery.
