Cosmetic surgery among adolescents may be related to bullying

When cosmetic surgery is mentioned, silicone implant placement, breast reduction, abdominal liposuction, among other procedures, come to mind. However, adolescents also rely on plastic surgeons to improve their appearance and, in some cases, even to minimize the chances of being potential targets of bullying.

I receive a growing number of young people, in early adolescence, who primarily seek otoplasty, popularly known as prominent ear surgery.

Another highly sought-after surgery in my practice is for the treatment of gynecomastia, which is breast enlargement in boys, and which is often surgical.

We live in a world where bullying, unfortunately, is a frequent situation, and if we can reduce these impacts in adolescence, I believe we will contribute to a mentally healthier future. I just emphasize that these surgeries can only be performed with the authorization and supervision of guardians.
