Cosmetic surgery among adolescents may be related to bullying

When we talk about cosmetic surgery, silicone implant placement, breast reduction, abdominal liposuction, among other procedures, come to mind. However, adolescents also rely on plastic surgeons to improve their appearance and, in some cases, even to minimize the chances of becoming targets of bullying.

I see a growing number of young people, in early adolescence, who primarily seek otoplasty, popularly known as prominent ear surgery.

Another highly sought-after surgery in my practice is for the treatment of gynecomastia, which is the enlargement of male breasts, and which often requires surgery.

We live in a world where bullying, unfortunately, is a frequent situation, and if we can reduce these impacts during adolescence, I believe we will contribute to a mentally healthier future. I only emphasize that these surgeries can only be performed with the authorization and accompaniment of guardians.
