Mini-liposuction is liposuction of small areas — generally up to 500 to 700 ml of aspirated fat — performed with local anesthesia + light sedation, short recovery, and minimal scars (3 to 4 mm). It is not a "cheap" liposuction — it is a different surgery, with specific indications.
When mini-lipo is the right indication
- Well-defined localized fat in 1 to 2 small areas
- Patient with stable weight and BMI below 28
- Skin with good elasticity (no visible laxity)
- Realistic expectation: contour refinement, not weight loss
Most common areas
| Area | Typical indication |
|---|---|
| Double chin / submentum | Mandibular line definition |
| Flanks / "love handles" | Waist refinement |
| Outer thighs / "saddlebags" | Lateral hip smoothing |
| Knees | Leg contour definition |
| Armpit ("roll") | Finishing of the posterior arm region |
| Mild gynecomastia | Small glandular excess in men |
Mini-lipo vs. classic liposuction
| Mini-lipo | Classic liposuction | |
|---|---|---|
| Aspirated volume | Up to 500 to 700 ml | 1,500 to 5,000 ml (ANVISA limit: 7% of weight) |
| Areas | 1 to 2 small | 3 or more (full body) |
| Anesthesia | Local + sedation | Epidural or general |
| Hospital stay | Day-hospital (discharge on the same day) | 1 night, generally |
| Recovery | 5 to 7 days | 14 to 21 days |
When mini-lipo is NOT the right indication
- Skin laxity — does not retract on its own; needs associated surgery
- Diffuse fat in multiple areas — becomes disguised classic liposuction
- Obesity (BMI ≥ 30) — liposuction does not treat obesity
- Diastasis or hernia — abdominoplasty/plication, not mini-lipo
- Unrealistic expectation of "getting shredded" — mini-lipo refines, it does not make you lose weight
Post-operative care
- Compression garment 24 h/day for 30 days
- Lymphatic drainage from the 3rd day (10 sessions on average)
- No intense exercise for 30 to 45 days
- Sun exposure on scars only after 60 days with SPF 50+
Frequently asked questions
What is mini-liposuction?
It is the liposuction of small areas — generally up to 500 to 700 ml of aspirated fat — performed with local anesthesia associated with light sedation, in a surgical environment. Short surgery time (1 to 2 hours) and faster recovery than classic liposuction.
Which areas can be treated with mini-lipo?
The most common: double chin and submentum, isolated flanks, outer thighs, inner thigh band, knees, armpit (roll), small lower abdomen, mild gynecomastia. The rule is: one or two small areas, well-defined localized fat.
Is mini-liposuction the same as HD liposuction?
No. Mini-lipo refers to the volume and number of areas (small and few). HD lipo is a muscle definition technique that sculpts contours — it can be used in mini-lipo or in larger liposuction procedures. They are different concepts.
How long does mini-lipo recovery take?
Return to light activities in 5 to 7 days. Compression garment for 30 days. Light exercise on the 15th day, intense exercise on the 45th day. Final results visible between 60 and 90 days after complete swelling reduction.
Does mini-lipo leave skin laxity?
When well-indicated (patient with good skin elasticity and small volume of fat), retraction is good and does not leave skin laxity. If the skin is already lax or the volume is large, mini-lipo is not the indication — another approach is needed.
