Learn some important information about Liposuction with Plastic Surgeon Dr. Fernando Amato (CRM 133826). Watch the video and check it out! Transcript Hello, I am Dr. Fernando Amato, and today we are going to talk about liposuction. Liposuction is one of the most performed aesthetic procedures in the world. It is a well-established technique for removing localized fat using a cannula and negative pressure with the use of a syringe or surgical aspirator. It has several names and nicknames, including liposculpture, hydrolipo, and some call it mini lipo and lipo light when it involves small areas or volumes. It is not a procedure for those who wish to slim down or lose weight; it is contraindicated for obese people. It can treat various areas of the body such as thighs, saddlebags, abdomen, back, flanks, double chin, arms, and others. Sometimes it can be associated with other surgical procedures such as abdominoplasty, mammoplasty, gynecomastia, and rhytidoplasty. The aspirated fat can be processed and placed or injected into other parts of the body such as the buttocks, breasts, or even the face; we call this fat grafting. There are some newer techniques that assist in liposuction, such as vibrolipo, which reduces surgical time, and lipo laser, which aids in the destruction of fat cells. Do not aspirate more than 7 percent of body volume or exceed 40 percent of the body surface area. Anesthesia can be local, local with sedation, and even general anesthesia, but always in a surgical environment. Patients who undergo proper preoperative preparation minimize their surgical risk. Hospitalization lasts a maximum of one day, and discharge can be on the same day. Drains are rarely used in this type of surgery; the scars are minimal, just enough for cannula access. There are dressings that can remain until the return visit without needing to be changed. It is necessary to wear elastic compression garments according to the treated area. Lymphatic drainage will only be authorized after medical approval. The final result will take several months and will depend on the decrease in swelling. Weight loss or gain can interfere with the final result. And if you wish, you can follow us on social media and there you can watch other videos on other topics.
