This month, we're going to address a topic that remains a taboo for many people: female intimate surgery. 💐

It is a series of aesthetic procedures performed on the external female genitalia with the aim of reducing size, correcting asymmetries, or laxity present in the region.

According to a survey by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), Brazil records 21,000 surgeries per year, placing the country in 1st place worldwide. 😱

The most common procedure among those performed on the female genital area is labiaplasty or nymphoplasty – a name that comes from the Greek nymphé, meaning “nymph, bride, labia minora.”

This is the technical term used to define the surgery that corrects the labia minora. Most cases have congenital etiology, but it can develop with aging after hormone use or chronic skin inflammation conditions.

Nymphoplasty is indicated not only for aesthetics but also because it can improve local hygiene, in addition to repairing the psychological damage associated with low self-esteem.

The surgical procedure is performed under local anesthesia and sedation, lasting about an hour. It can be done in a day hospital (hospitaldia.com), as the patient is discharged on the same day as the operation.
