It is increasingly common for people to lose a lot of weight, whether with the help of surgeries, medications, or diets. As a result, surgical procedures such as abdominoplasty, mammoplasty, thigh lift, and arm lift are becoming more and more frequent to improve the quality of life of these patients. Watch the video for more details with Dr. Fernando Amato (CRM 133826). ----transcript-- The majority of the population is overweight, with more than 20% of them already obese. Obesity is one of the main risk factors for diabetes and hypertension. With the aim of preventing complications of obesity, bariatric surgery has been growing considerably. So now we have many post-bariatric patients with significant weight loss, whether due to bariatric surgery or even by diet, and these patients who have experienced these significant losses begin to have sequelae, which is excess skin on the body. This excess skin on the body appears mainly in the abdomen, being the primary region treated. The treatment for the abdomen is abdominoplasty, and it can be done with a traditional, horizontal scar, or an anchor dermolipectomy, which is more commonly used in these patients with significant weight loss. The second most performed surgery in these patients is mammoplasty. It can be a reduction mammoplasty, it can be a mastopexy, where the areola has lost its position, so repositioning is necessary. And there is also augmentation mammoplasty, which is just the placement of an implant. Another very common surgery is brachioplasty, which is plastic surgery on the arms, which can be done with liposuction, liposuction associated with skin resection, and this skin resection can be done both longitudinally, or longitudinally with a little resection in the armpit, or also, in some more selected cases, with skin resection only in the armpit. Cruroplasty is the removal of skin on the thighs. So, a region that concentrates skin and fat after these weight losses is the inner thigh region. Thus, there is cruroplasty, and this cruroplasty can be done with liposuction associated with skin resection, and it can be T-shaped, longitudinal, or in an inverted L shape, known as a boomerang. In addition, there are other regions that are treated, such as the back and the gluteal region. This significant weight loss, loss of volume, does not occur only in these regions, it occurs throughout the body. So there are other regions that can undergo changes and require treatment. Another example is the face. That's what I had to say about surgery in post-bariatric patients. If you want more information, follow our videos. Thank you.
